Set in New England, 1703. 14 year old Charlotte tells her younger siblings a true story of a girl who woke up covered in feathers and was put to death by the town for witchcraft. Her stern mother Katherine scolds her. Their religious grandmother Elizabeth joins them for a meal, where Katherine makes it clear that they don’t practice religion in their home anymore. Charlotte, however, misses prayer, as their late father used to practice religion. That night, Charlotte wakes up covered in feathers. She tries a myriad of methods to get rid of them, each unsuccessful, and so she decides to go seek her grandmother’s advice. On the way she meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith is sympathetic, but Mr. Smith accuses Charlotte of witchcraft. When Charlotte escapes to her grandmother’s, she reads the story of Naaman from the Bible. Elizabeth tells her that the same thing happened to herself 20 years ago, but she was healed through faith and washing herself in a stream. Then Katherine barges in and they argue for a moment. Charlotte, getting courage, stands up to her mother and makes it known that she wants to trust God. The three of them go to the stream in Elizabeth’s yard, where Charlotte prays, washes herself, and is healed.
