Lono and the Pig

  • Who Can Direct? Author Only

Harassed by his Hawaiian family for being “too white”, hapa Hawaiian James “Lono” runs away to find his estranged father. His journey takes him through the dark and supposedly haunted wood that borders his family’s rural home. There, James encounters supernatural forces that may be the workings of Kamapua’a, the trickster pig-god. These forces cause him to confront his personal prejudices and decide where he truly belongs. In the end, James returns home to his Hawaiian family and learns to embrace his multicultural identity.
