In order to pay off debts, Marcus, an elderly jazz musician, begrudgingly obeys his son’s demands to sell his most prized possession: his old trumpet. However, as he plays his horn, Marcus is confronted with all of the memories he has with it. He sees both the joy it has brought him and his family, as well as the sorrow that his passion for the horn has inflicted upon them. After reliving these memories and coming to terms with what he’s done, Marcus makes a decision.
