Deirdre's partner, Maeve, passed away in a car accident that Deirdre takes partial responsibility for. As she grapples with guilt and depression, her spoon RJ gains sentience. She unknowingly harms RJ by putting them in the dishwasher, causing them to split in half into R & J. R seeks revenge on Deirdre as J works to stop R and become one again. In the end, R and J unintentionally help Deirdre to acknowledge her faults and find peace before she dies.
