Over several days, Amos makes strange preparations - electrifying his border fence, building piles of salt, sharpening stakes. As the day he's circled on the calendar, the 13th, gets closer and closer, his preparations increase in strangeness. The 13th arrives, and so do the creatures of the night - an unseen tumult of shadows at the edge of Amos's property. He racks the shotgun, watches his preparations take effect, and waits.
